Happy 38th Birthday, Victoria Beckham!

It's April 17th! Happy 38th Birthday to Victoria Beckham -- a wife of a soccer star, mother of four, former singer turns fashion designer! I made a little something for her. :)

Technically, it's April 18th here in Brunei, but we're hours ahead of LA's time so... and Mrs. Beckham might probably still be in celebration mode. ;)

I Just Watched "Don't Look-Look"

I just got back from the cinema. Mi Amor and I watched "Jangan Pandang-Pandang", which stars Zizan, Sara and some other actors/actresses who I don't really know, and I don't have any urge to research who they are. I do know the veteran actors in this: Azhar Sulaiman (my mother loves him!) and Jaafar Onn.

I think this is the first time that I found myself liking Zizan as an actor. I think he acted beautifully in Jangan Pandang-Pandang; there are times when I think he over-acted, though he was decent in most of the scenes, especially throughout the first half of the movie.

I'm giving this movie a 3 out of 5 stars. I was surprised to see the decent acting by all the actors involved except this one actor who I have NEVER seen before. It's rare to see Malaysian actors in their best portrayal these days, especially when it comes to comedy. The "comedians" tend to over-exaggerate their tones and actions which annoys me a great deal.

This is the part where people should be aware that I'm about to blurt out spoilers for those who haven't seen this movie.

Anyways... Back to the actor who I have NEVER seen before... He wore leather jacket throughout the movie... he played the guy who I think (if I'm not mistaken) was one of Marsha's brother. Ugh! I've never wanted to throttle a guy this much! He's SOOOO ANNOYING!

The storyline at the beginning was good, but after the part when this annoying guy showed up, the progress dramatically went downhill. Everything make no sense at all... especially the part where it was revealed that Marsha and Bob (Azhar Sulaiman) were siblings. What's the point of having the scene where Marsha was caught "stealing" the box by Bob and had her afraid of this Bob person when he was her BROTHER... and NOBODY was there to witness their facade. Big, big plot hole.

Nothing much to say really. I really do think that Zizan is the reason why I enjoyed this movie. Best effort by this comedian, so far. Well done! *thumbs up*

Outrage Responses After Victoria's "Innocent" Statement

'We always joke that we have this fabulously gorgeous 17-year-old model who is 6ft-whatever and I say, "OK, I'm going to put it on - I stand for the general public here",' Victoria Beckham, 37, told Harper's Bazaar.

When I read this article, I laughed it off. I never thought that her comments would get rises out of certain people which also include two, apparently, celebrities.

Katie Price used her column in the Sun on Sunday to hit back at Victoria Beckham, claiming she is deluded. She wrote, 'I think all this Californian sunshine is sending Posh senile because she is a size 6... And if she had read the papers this week she would know that the general public like eating pasties and the average British woman is a size 16. They can't afford Posh's £1,000 dresses let alone fit into them.'

Now... I found this comment amusing. For one thing, I really thought Victoria was kidding when she made that comment, but even if she's not, she's entitled to think as she pleased. I don't plan on posting this Katie "Big Boobs" Price's picture on my blog. She's pretty... ugly. If you don't know who this person is, google her. I honestly didn't know who this girl is, so I took the liberty of googling her and what I read and saw amuses me. Her whole body looks really fake, especially the boobs and lips and the way she commented on Victoria makes me think of this person being fat. I'm FAR from size 6, but I'm not offended by the statement. It looks innocent enough to me. It looks to me that this big boob person is an attention seeker, and since she knows Victoria is famous and probably she thinks most people would agree with her... *shrugs* And the bit about Posh's dresses being expensive... What's it to her? Despite being expensive, her dresses are still sold out within a very short amount of time. From the looks of the photo of this Big Boobs person, her attire didn't seem affordable for some people too. She ought to look in the mirror before saying stuff like this.

Ok... Disagreeing is fine, but calling Victoria senile definitely got a rise out of me. I do think that Victoria loves getting attention, but I don't think it's a crime. Not when she gets it with her own hard-work... and I do think Victoria is a nice person, which is why I don't think she deserves being called names.

Anyways... Just a few hours earlier, I read another 'celebrity' commenting on Victoria's statement. A Kerry Katona (don't know who she is, and I'm too lazy to look her up) says that 'Victoria lives on steamed fish and raw vegetables and wears a size 6 dress... That's not normal... She doesn't look healthy, she always looks so gaunt and skinny.' -- Um... So what? Some people only eat vegetable, so what's it to her?

Seriously... Leave her alone!

Saving Hope Under The "HQ" Microscope

I got goosebumps! Once again, Durance Magazine has new dirts on Saving Hope and I'm getting pretty addictive with this show... and it hasn't even been aired! And as it turned out, it's not just about Erica! How astounding is that?!

According to DM, TBI has an article on the show. It's interesting... and it makes me even more eager for the premiere.

The following is an extract from the article:

Many TV critics and other observers complain that medical dramas tend to cover the same ground. “Whether the characters are dressed in blue or white, it’s always the same format,” says Bertrand Villegas of TV consultancy The Wit.
.........
“Part of what I thought was really insteresting about this, and a different way into a medical drama, was this whole idea of faith,” says Noreen Halpern, the outgoing president of dramatic programming for eOne Television.
.........
“Medical shows have a history of succeeding. There are great life and death stakes built into the fabric of a medical show. But then you add this twist of faith and spiriatuality — Is it just about science? Is it just about medicine? — And I think that is a really interesting way into a very traditional franchise.”

To read the complete article, you can go to Durance Magazine post HERE.

Well... The only Medical drama I watched was a Hong Kong TV Series. My parents used to watch ER ages ago, and they seemed to really like it. Then again, my dad is also quite impressed with House; he only watch it whenever he happens to see it while he flips through channels. My dad isn't a romance drama type of a person, so... *shrugs*

Any-who... For some reasons, I got the feeling that this show is going to be huge. Just a hunch! Could it be my ultimate favorite show? Could it get me fanatic over a TV show once again? The romantic aspect easily capture a big part my heart... but if the main relationship goes down to the triangle route like I mentioned in my previous post, I'd be very pissed. Seriously, I'm sailing on THAT ship again! We'll see...

By the way, DM has a High Quality poster available on their webbie. It's soooo... pretty! Two Ericas and two Michaels. Just fabulous!

Entertainment One Unveils Saving Hope Poster!

It's been a while since the last time I check up on my notification emails and I got a big surprise! Entertainment One (eOne) unveils the poster for their upcoming show with Erica Durance and Michael Shanks, "Saving Hope", which I did mention on my earlier post. Unfortunately, the poster is only available in a small size (humph!) but, we can still see how gorgeous Erica looks in there. There are also Michael Shanks and Daniel Gillies (I presume) in the poster. I hope to see the bigger version soon.

Having a look at the new poster, it got me thinking. I have a feeling that there is going to be a love triangle between the three doctors (It's somewhat obvious, really), which I will hate. I really, really HATE storylines with couples breaking up *cough* Rachel/Ross *cough*, so I do hope that Erica Durance's character, Alex, will stay loyal to ONE man and I want that man to be Michael Shanks' character (Charlie)... if... only if their chemistry is as good as it looks in the trailer.

This hospital-themed show reminds me of a Hong Kong's TVB series, Healing Hands, which aired on a Malaysian TV Channel sometime ago. I'm so in love with the first season of the series, solely because of the coupling (mind you, I'm always a romantic!). Anyways... The show went on for season 2 and 3, with NEW characters and they KILLED of one of the main girl from the first season. The second season gotten weird and I stopped watching after they killed the girl. The phenomena still irks me to this day. So I do hope that won't happen in Saving Hope, which I already have faith in.

Saving Hope premieres June 7th on NBC. (June 8th Brunei time).

From Novels to the Big Screen

I went to the cinema twice in a row. My Love and I treated ourselves with “John Carter” last night and just a few hours earlier, we’ve watched another movie called “The Hunger Games”. Needless to say, these two movies are… unique in their own ways given the fact that they both are of the same genre of fiction -- sci-fi action (such a popular genre!).

Another interesting similarity and one fact which somewhat annoys me quite a bit -- these two movies are based on novels. Such a popular concept these days, isn’t it? Making films out of detailed novels. I do think that novel writers tend to be very creative when it comes to the plot or story-telling; however, the logic is always out of this world, which audience/readers can easily accept. It’s really impossible for the movie to get all the plot right so the results of these film adaptations could go either way; it can get horribly wrong, or it can be decent, if not great.

Fact is… Most novels these days are written in series, at least those that I’ve read, which means that there are always going to be sequel(s). It’s like watching TV series, but the wait are months/year apart.

I’m an avid Julie Garwood and Nora Roberts fan, so I’m waiting to see if their romance novel will get their chances on the big screen. I know some of Nora Roberts’ novels have already been adapted into movies, but I’m still hoping to see one on the cinema instead of my TV, or Laptop. I’m not counting on the romance part though. Mind you… these two authors have sense of humor and they respect the bond that ties people together, whether by blood, marriage or others…
...
...

Will Erica Durance be getting involved with this kind of project? She nearly gets that... but for some reason, Kristin Kreuk replaced her in that project Erica was supposed to be part of. Sheesh!

Anyways… I’m still contemplating whether I should try writing reviews again… hmm.

"Saving Hope" Could be My Future Obsession

I didn't realise that it's been almost a year since the last time I swooned over a TV show. I remember Smallville's last episode aired in May last year, and it was such a spectacular ending to a show that had been broadcasted on TV for 10 years.

I didn't think that I'd be as fanatic as I was with Smallville for another TV show (which doesn't include Reality TV show, which I somewhat enjoy watching occasionally), but it looks like Erica Durance's future TV show, Saving Hope, might just be the one to catch me back in the fanatic fans' zone.

Here's the press release for this upcoming show:

NBC To Become U.S. Broadcaster For New CTV Drama Series SAVING HOPE
• Series is from award-winning producers Ilana Frank and David Wellington
• Principal photography set to begin March 12 in Toronto
• Series set for summer debut on CTV and NBC
Erica Durance stars as Dr. Alex Reid in SAVING HOPE
Los Angeles/Toronto, ON (March 1, 2012) – Leading independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) and Canada’s #1 television network CTV are proud to jointly announce that NBC has come on board as the U. S. broadcaster of Ilana C Frank Films’ new one-hour original drama series, SAVING HOPE. In November, CTV announced it had ordered 12 one-hour episodes of the series, joining a pilot shot last summer. Premiering this summer on CTV and NBC, principal photography is set to begin March 12 in Toronto.
In addition to acting as the deficit financier, eOne will also handle the international television distribution of the series in all media including all television, DVD/Blu-ray, VOD and digital exploitation.
“With NBC now on board, this is another huge success for Bell Media’s independent production team and demonstrates yet again our commitment to producing high-calibre, engaging and compelling original programming,” said Phil King, President, CTV Programming & Sports. “This captivating new series is sure to resonate with Canadian viewers as well as viewers south of the border.”
Starring Erica Durance (SMALLVILLE), Michael Shanks (STARGATE ATLANTIS), Daniel Gillies, (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES), Huse Madhavji (COMBAT HOSPITAL, STAR! DAILY), Julia Taylor-Ross (ROOKIE BLUE), and Kristopher Turner (ROOKIE BLUE, THE LISTENER), the series is from acclaimed Gemini award-winning producers Ilana Frank and David Wellington (THE ELEVENTH HOUR, WOULD BE KINGS, ROOKIE BLUE).
In SAVING HOPE, when charismatic Chief of Surgery Charlie Harris (Shanks) at Toronto’s Hope-Zion Hospital ends up in a coma, he leaves the hospital in chaos – and his fiancĂ©e and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Durance), in a state of shock. Along with newly-arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES), Alex races to save Harris’ life. As the action unfolds, comatose Dr. Harris explores the hospital halls in “spirit” form, not sure if he’s a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients, as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.
SAVING HOPE is produced by Ilana C Frank Films (“ICFF”) with Entertainment One, in association with CTV and NBC. The series is executive produced by Ilana Frank and David Wellington for ICFF, John Morayniss (THE FIRM, HAVEN) for Entertainment One and Lesley Harrison. Executive Producers and Showrunners are Morwyn Brebner (ROOKIE BLUE) and Aaron Martin (BEING ERICA). The series was created by Malcolm MacRury (CRASH AND BURN, REPUBLIC OF DOYLE) and Morwyn Brebner. David Wellington directed the pilot. For Bell Media, Trish Williams is Director, Drama, Independent Production; Corrie Coe is Senior Vice-President, Independent Production; Mike Cosentino is Senior Vice-President, Programming, CTV Networks. Phil King is President, CTV Programming & Sports.
Well... What do you think?

It's quite  obvious that the show only caught my attention due to Erica Durance's involvement in the project. However, I think now... the reason it gets deep into me is far from that fact. Every time I get new words on this show, each time I found myself excited, and the excitement is still growing.

Michael Shanks, who happened to portray one of Smallville's recurring hero, Hawkman a.k.a Carter Hall, in a very short amount of time, had captured my heart (You should know, I'm very partial towards the Smallville casts, whether he/she is the series regular or not). In Saving Hope, he will portray a character who is engaged to Erica Durance's character... and since Erica has always perfected her chemistry with Michael Shanks, I found myself wanting this new "relationship" to work. I might be too early to judge, but I think I'm already a shipper. Oh My... I didn't think that I'd be THAT again. It really is scary to be one, especially when you became to fanatic one.

Saving Hope is set to premiere on NBC -- Thursday, June 7, 10-11 p.m. ET. WOW! In the same month of Erica's birthday... Exactly 14 days before her turning of 34. ;) So excited!

Victoria Shows Her Culinery Skill

Victoria Beckham posted two tweets regarding her involvement with her sons’ school project. Apparently, Romeo and Cruz are celebrating international food day at their Los Angeles school… and supermom Beckham has prepared some traditional British food.

Here are some excerpts from ContactMusic.com

Alongside a picture of some Union Jack-themed stickers and mini-flags, she first tweeted: ''School project!! International food day for Romeo and Cruz, started preparing x vb (sic)''

She then posted a picture of her finished goods and added: ''Just finished cooking! Very proud to be British! X vb''

No doubt David was impressed by his wife's selection of British snacks - which included sausage rolls and cheese and pineapple on sticks - as it has previously been revealed he frequently visits a specialist shop in Los Angeles to get the UK treats he misses…

Full article HERE.

I do love reading about the Beckhams, especially when it comes to the kids...
